The early 20th-century Sanskrit scholar Jean Philippe Vogel utilized photography as a way of documenting the art and architecture of the Indian subcontinent. These 150 sepia images reveal the Dutchman to have been an extremely proficient photographer, capturing the land and its people in crisp, documentary detail. The text draws upon Vogel's diary and other writings, delving into the archaeological significance of his work and presenting his outsider's perspective on British-ruled India. No sales outside North America.
