Though falling into the realm of traditional "crafts"—pieces in glass, wood, ceramic, fiber, and metal—the works revealed in 200 color plates here can only be called art. This catalog from the Saxe collection in San Francisco showcases such striking examples of the craftsman's art as the sinuously curved and inviting Rocking Chair No. 42 by Sam Maloof and the virtually unsittable abstraction of Jay Stanger's Chair; Ken Price's painted ceramic sculptures; and the seemingly animate jars of Adrian Saxe; Kay Sekimachi's delicate paper bowls and the glass still life constructions of William Morris.
