This work stands as a city monograph of high archival value, focusing on one of Istanbul’s oldest settlement areas. It examines the historical transformation of Zeytinburnu from its military and religious identity during the Byzantine period to its rise as an industrial center in the Ottoman era, and finally its urban development in the Republican period through a comprehensive perspective. The book does more than present a historical narrative; it also reveals the collective memory of the district through the lens of everyday life. Moving beyond a superficial neighborhood account, the work makes visible Zeytinburnu’s true position within the urban and historical fabric of Istanbul.
